JOHN TORODE'S KOREAN FOOD TOUR

Chef John Torode will be joining Denhams’ talent pool of food presenters in a new commission for Denhams from UKTV’s Good Food Channel.

Tapping in to the growing popularity of Korean food, John will present 10 x 45 series JOHN TORODE’S KOREAN FOOD TOUR, jetting off on his culinary travels to tackle a whole new territory and range of dishes.  UKTV has partnered with Hyundai Media in South Korea to produce the new show, which is funded by the Korean Communications Agency, known as the KCA, and UKTV.  The deal was brokered by The Bridge, fronted by Amanda Groom, and the international distributor is Argonon International.

Throughout the series John works his way through some of the nation’s top 100 dishes and then creates his own version of a Korean classic with a modern twist.

For the uninitiated, South Korea is a beautiful assault on the senses and one that John relishes in the series. From Buddhist temples to the extraordinary craze for Mokbang (celebrities filming and broadcasting themselves eating), there’s a huge amount to see, do and eat. Immersing himself in both traditional and modern Korea, John travels around South Korea, going into people’s homes and kitchens, enjoying the wealth and high tech splendour of Seoul to the tiny rural outposts deep in the mountains and the beach resort of Busan in the South.

From traditional Tofu makers, to the extraordinary quantities of Kimchi made every autumn for Korean store cupboards, to the Korean version of glamping with delicious barbecue food, as well as the Buddhist monks who make barugongyang for their guests, the series is a gastronomic  feast not just for John – but for viewers as well.

Executive Producer Grace Kitto said, “Korean food is on the up and we’re delighted to be working with John Torode to bring the secrets of its cuisine to a wider audience.”

UKTV’s Commissioning Executive Victoria Summer, said, “The trend for Korean cuisine just keeps growing in the UK, so where better to send John Torode on his next adventure? John Torode’s Korean Food Tour explores the country’s incredible and unique dishes, and also celebrates the nation’s beautiful landscape and colourful culture.”

UKTV’s Director of Commercial Partnerships, Sally Quick, added, “We’re really excited to be working with the KCA on this project, John Torode is a big draw for our Good Food audience and two previous John Torode series (Australia and Malaysia) have been some of the top performing shows on the channel – so we are confident Korea will be extremely popular.”

The series will air later this year on UKTV’s Good Food channel.

JOHN TORODE’S KOREAN FOOD TOUR is a Denham production for UKTV’s Good Food channel. It is directed by Stuart Bateup and series produced by Janice Gabriel.  The executive producer is Grace Kitto and the commissioning editor for UKTV is Victoria Summer.
