DONAL’S ASIAN BAKING ADVENTURE, Denham’s new advertiser-funded series for broadcaster UKTV, begins every weekday on Good Food from Monday 19th February, scheduled at 10.30am, 3.30pm and 8.30pm.
UKTV and production company Denham Productions have partnered with Cen Media and the Korean Communications Agency (KCA) to fund the ten-part series. The series is distributed by Argonon International.
DONAL’S ASIAN BAKING ADVENTURE follows Irish food writer, photographer and television presenter Donal Skehan as he heads east to explore the flavours and secrets of Asian baking, with stops in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia.
From the very latest pandan croissants and cheese tart craze to traditional dim sum, wedding trends and popular street snacks, Skehan gathers inspiration from a range of local experts to pull together his easy recipes for fantastic Asian bakes.
In the first episode, Donal visits Hong Kong and heads for one of the city’s oldest bakeries, Lin Heung Bakery on Wellington Street, where he meets Tatler Food Editor Charmaine Mok for brunch. Next up is the Plumcot Bakery in Tai Hang, one of the newest in the city where he tries their signature bake, a brioche and ice cream ‘cold dog’.
In the colonial grandeur of the Peninsula Hotel Patisserie Donal samples afternoon tea Hong Kong style and meets Executive Chef for patisserie, Ludovic Douteau, who shows him the hotel’s cake laboratory and demonstrates mille-feuille made with fresh coconut and yuzu – an unexpected Asian twist. In the kitchen Donal bakes Char Siu Sausage Rolls and Jasmine Tea Brownies.
