Denhams' new ob doc for BBC England, The Great British Staycation: Sun, Sea and Salcombe, will be shown on Monday 11th November in the 7.30pm BBC South West slot on BBC One.
With more Brits than ever tipped to stay at home this summer, Salcombe is the classic staycation destination. With a population of 1,800 locals, it spikes to 30,000 during the summer.
The programme follows Salcombe’s residents, holidaymakers and local business owners during the two weeks in August in which people – and boats – descend on this quintessential British seaside town for its annual regatta. For local businesses working in tourism, the summer holiday season is their peak potential to make a significant portion of their year’s takings in only six weeks, but the pressure is intense. How does Salcombe cope with the influx of visitors and can it offer people all that they need for the perfect staycation?
The Great British Staycation: Sun, Sea and Salcombe is a series for BBC England. Each episode is being made regionally and will appear on BBC One in that area first and will then appear on BBC iPlayer.
The Commissioning Executive for BBC is Sam Smith and the Executive Producer at Denhams is Mel Mackie. The programme is directed by Joe Harding and produced by Liz Stone.
